Morningstar and iCapital have formed a strategic partnership to provide Morningstar’s Advisor Workstation users with access to alternative investments and analytics for the first time. The integration will allow advisors to evaluate private assets alongside traditional investments, empowering them to offer diversified portfolios that include alternative assets. The first phase of the relationship allows independent advisor clients to access the iCapital Marketplace and iCapital Architect through a single interface. The second phase, expected in the first half of 2024, will bring the integration to Advisor Workstation’s Enterprise-level clients and leverage iCapital’s analytics to generate Morningstar’s Portfolio Risk Score. According to Morningstar’s Voice of the Advisor study, advisors are increasingly offering alternative assets to their clients, with alternatives making up between 14% and 19% of total assets under management.
