The director of the UK’s Open Banking Ltd (OBL), Alan Ainsworth, has left the organisation after six years. OBL, formerly known as the Open Banking Implementation Entity (OBIE), was launched in 2018 to promote open banking capabilities among UK banks and customers. Ainsworth joined OBL in 2018 and served as head of policy before transitioning to the role of strategy, standards, and policy director in 2022. Ainsworth played a key role in creating open banking-enabling APIs and implementing data standards. Under his leadership, open banking enabled 11.4 million payments in the UK. Ainsworth has since taken on a new role as the managing director of Onniva Ltd, an international open finance advisor.
